AGRANA extends surcharge to cover organic sugar beet
Date: 20.03.2012In September 2011, the Austrian sugar producer AGRANA agreed a surcharge for conventionally grown sugar beet with the Austrian Beet Growers’ Association (Die Rübenbauern) due to the higher sales revenues generated with conventional sugar. This was announced by means of a press release on 30 September 2011.
Given that the outcome of these negotiations referred to in the press release did not specifically relate solely to beet grown under conventional farming methods, organic farmers assumed that this surcharge also applied to organic sugar beet. AGRANA has now decided that this surcharge of EUR 6.71 per tonne of sugar beet shall also be paid for organic sugar beet.
